USA The Covid19 crisis is back!

USA The Covid19 crisis is back

The corona pandemic is spreading again, especially in the conservative south of the USA. The new wave is not in sight.

USA The crisis is back

It wasn't long ago that the USA seemed like a country that would leave the Covid crisis behind it sooner than many other industrialized nations. Thanks in part to the Trump administration's forward-looking vaccine purchasing policy, the United States already had plenty of active ingredients from Pfizer, Moderna and Co. available in the spring. In mid-April, doctors inoculated more than 3.5 million doses a day. The economy also recovered rapidly. The United States celebrated some sort of resurrection from the pandemic depression.

Four months later, the US crisis is back. The vaccination campaign has largely come to a standstill. Only a little more than 700,000 units are administered daily. A hard core of vaccination refusals in the country still does not want to be vaccinated, and due to the highly contagious Delta variant, the Covid numbers are skyrocketing at a rate like at the height of the pandemic last year.

The new hotspots are the southern states of the USA. In Louisiana, the incidence is now 120 cases per 100,000 population within seven days. In the third most populous state of Florida, there are 93. Never before have so many people in the Sunshine State been infected with Covid-19 at the same time as currently - the authorities report more than 19,000 cases on a seven-day average. The dramatic increase poses challenges for health authorities and hospitals that were almost thought to have been overcome. In Florida, 86 percent of intensive care beds are occupied by Covid patients. In Tennessee, Oregon and Louisiana, among others, the hospitals are coming threateningly close to their capacity limits.

A Louisiana health official described the case of a New Orleans man who was turned away from six hospitals after suffering a heart attack before a vacant place in an intensive care unit was found for him. Because the Usa hospitals are overcrowded with Covid patients. The state of Florida has now ordered hundreds of ventilators from the federal government to help ventilate the growing number of patients. In Brevard County, the authorities are instructing citizens to only dial the emergency number in absolute emergencies because the health authorities are overloaded with the care of Covid patients.
